According to Wikipedia, camping is defined as an outdoor activity involving overnight stays away from home in a shelter, such as a tent. Typically, participants leave developed areas to spend time outdoors in more natural ones in pursuit of activities providing them enjoyment. To be regarded as “camping” a minimum of one night is spent outdoors, distinguishing it from day-tripping, picnicking, and other similarly short-term recreational activities. Camping can be enjoyed through all four seasons.
According to Wikipedia, Glamping is a portmanteau of glamorous and camping and describes a style of camping with amenities and, in some cases, resort-style services not usually associated with “traditional” camping. Glamping has become particularly popular with 21st-century tourists seeking the luxuries of hotel accommodation alongside “the escapism and adventure recreation of camping”.
In my opinion, Glamping comes in three forms: 1) Mobile, 2) Fixed Structure, and 3) Car/Family Tent Glamping.
.
RVs, Trailers, Fifth Wheelers, etc. This form of glamping is characterized as the “Turtle” because you are taking your home with you wherever you go. Mobile glamping can range from a basic teardrop with no running water trailer, to a million-dollar luxury RV.
Great for couples and small families who can afford the costs, maintenance and storage. Extremely popular with retirees who want to travel the country. Upfront costs are significant.
Permanent structure form of glamping is when and where the sleeping area or shelter is fixed or non-movable. It may include Tipis, bell tents, yurts and even tree houses. These structures are then rented by the night or weekend usually to couples who want to get away but don’t want the work of putting a campsite together.
What really sets Fixed Structure Glamping apart from Mobile or Tent Glamping is the type and level of services. Food, drinks, activities can all be provided by the glamping hosts.
Family camping is when the campers own the tents, gear, and equipment they take it with them. What makes family glamping different from traditional camping is the type, style, and luxury of the tents, gear and equipment. In addition, car glamping is when you park close to your campsite and stay in developed areas with water and or electricity and restroom facilities. State parks are a perfect place for car glamping.
