In my last blog, I compared camping to glamping. Then I discussed three forms of glamping: 1) mobile – think RVs, 2) fixed structure – think Bell tents and yurts, and 3) family tent glamping – think inflatable zoned tents with windows and inner tents. As you’re watching the videos on our website I want to share with you different areas of camping and how to transform each one so you are the envy of the campground. I must warn you, at one of our glamp outs we had about thirty people stop by over the week and ask questions about how and where to get tents and gear like what you see.

Here are five areas of family tent glamping that you can transform to make them more intense. Try at least one (or all) on your next campout. Those areas to intentsify (yes, I made up a word using tent!) include 1) tent, 2) furnishings, 3) dining, 4) activities and 5) scenery/location.

GLAMPING STANDARDS

Before I go through each one, I think it’s really important to make this statement about what I call family tent glamping. No one can say what glamping is or isn’t. It’s totally subjective. Anything that anyone does when camping can be considered glamping. For example,

Stringing lights around your campsite,
Grilling steaks instead of hot dogs,
Drinking imported beer in your tent (as opposed to the local brew),
Using an air mattress instead of sleeping on the ground
Putting a colorful sweater on your dog
Pitching a tent on the bed of your pickup next to a river

Any or all of those can be considered glamping. What I want to share is how to elevate different aspects of camping to crazy levels of glamping in tents. I want to give you amazing ideas, proven strategies and ways to purchase the best of the best tents, gear and equipment from around the world. And then how to use it, stage it, and maximize its functions for outdoor fun. Let’s glamp.

TENT: CAMPING TENT TO INTENTS GLAMPING TENT

intents glamping family camping — Camping: This is how we family camp if weight is an issue and we are going to have to carry the tent far away from the car. This is one of the best tents REI makes and is quite light. However, it is not a glamping tent because we can’t see out and we aren’t comfortable having people in our tent. If there is a slight chance of rain the tent must be covered. The living section has all mesh and is great for perfect weather, but there is usually a chance of rain so the fly must stay on.

It’s a simple set up that doesn’t require much time or effort. However, with this setup we don’t want anyone in our tent and if the weather is poor being in the tent can feel claustrophobic and cramped.

FURNISHINGS: CAMPING VERSUS INTENTS

Furnishings: This is InTents Glamping™ tent all tricked out. An inflatable couch and queen mattress. Foldable chairs and kitchen station. Collapsible stools and soft foam faux wood pillows. ***DINING:*** *This is basic breakfast camping. Using a propane gas stove and making eggs and gravy for the biscuits. For some people, that might be glamping because they either skip breakfast or eat pop tarts.*
*Nothing wrong with any of that it’s just not elevating the dining experience.*

***DINING:*** Here is a complete Thanksgiving dinner for 12 people – baked out of a U-Haul cardboard box oven (will show videos on how to do that another time) at our glamping site. Homemade pies, dressing, rolls, sweet potatoes, salad and much more. Glamping is about great dining and doing things you never thought possible. Just because you’re outdoors doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy an amazing holiday dinner. Other campers came by to enjoy!

ACTIVITIES: CAMPING VERSUS INTENTS GLAMPING THINGS TO DO

There can be nothing more relaxing than napping in a hammock by a lake. Camping can offer all kinds of activities from strenuous to relaxing.

The one thing that is more fun than being next to a lake is being on the lake. From canoeing to kayaking from paddle boards to boats – get out and enjoy.

SCENERY: Ok, just about anywhere you camp – next to a tree, in your back yard, or even a field, being outdoors can be wonderful. To hear the chirping of birds or no sounds at all can be comforting.

SCENERY: With a little effort and planning you can take your location and scenery to another level. Here we are glamping next to a river and waterfall in Arkansas.
